Alternative search engine for Google!
Ever wondered if there is a search engine that can potentially surpass Google considering its popularity and reputation? Dive in and know more about Bing, an alternative search engine for Google that offers various convenient features!
Bing, officially known as Microsoft Bing, was developed by Microsoft Corporation in 2009. According to Microsoft, Bing is a “decision engine” and was created not only to provide search results, but also help users gain and use knowledge from the web. Microsoft replaced their former search engine, Live Search, with Bing, offering an improved performance, speed, and user experience. It is currently the second most popular search engine in the world.
Microsoft Bing provides various features that can potentially replace or become an alternative to Google. It offers functionalities that Google also offers, and more. First, it offers a lively homepage display, showing high-quality background images that change everyday. This feature separates Bing from other search engines that have a minimalist design such as Google, while giving users a more refreshing browsing experience. If ever some users prefer a minimalist visual, Bing allows customization to accommodate users’ preferences. Apart from this, Microsoft also integrated Microsoft Rewards on Bing where users can accumulate points for every search and exchange it for gift cards, donations, and game currencies. Bing also does not flag a search from VPN/Tor sources as suspicious activity, unlike Google. Meaning, users do not have to repeatedly prove that they are not a bot.
Bing uses generative AI to enhance search efficiency and make it more assistive. It provides summary answers, especially for yes or no questions, and offers a "whole page algorithm" for convenient infographic display. Bing also supports sidebar and split screen searching, allowing users to right-click on difficult terms for easier information. Unlike Google, Bing offers a larger scrolling panel for images, resembling a slideshow, and directs users to the full-sized image instead of the host website. It also allows users to search for image files and URLs, and allows users to stay on Bing while viewing videos instead of directing them to streaming sites.
Although Google is the most popular search engine today, Bing is also worth paying attention to as it offers numerous features that can be considered on par or better than Google.
